Nature Mandala
Arrange what you find into a pattern — then photograph it and leave it.
TeensSoloLow energy30–60 minNo setupCreative
What you need
- Gathered natural materials: leaves, petals, pebbles, pinecones, bark, seed pods
- A flat clearing of ground (dirt, a rock face, or a log)
- A phone or camera to photograph the finished piece
How to play
- 1.Spend 10–15 minutes collecting materials from the ground. Aim for variety in color, texture, and size. Take nothing from living plants.
- 2.Find a flat surface and place a single rock, cone, or flower at the center.
- 3.Build outward in concentric rings, alternating materials for pattern and contrast. Each ring should reflect the one inside it.
- 4.Work slowly. The goal is observation, not speed.
- 5.Photograph the finished mandala from directly above. Then scatter it — leave the materials where you found them.
Variations
- Timed sprint: 20 minutes total including collection. Go.
- Group mandala: each person builds a quadrant and they meet in the middle.
- Themed palette: only one color family allowed (all reds and browns, or all greens).
Safety notes
- Collect only from the ground — no picking flowers, breaking branches, or disturbing nests.
- Leave the mandala materials scattered when done. No burying.
Works great with these trip plans
